| In
the south part of the Coquimbo peninsula, in the north shore of the
"Herradura Bay", is located the Coquimbo Branch of the Universidad
Católica del Norte, which promote among others activities the management
and development of marine resources, being the Marine Science Faculty,
with the financial support of the Japanese government, responsible
of the actual development of the scallop culture industry. At the
present time the region produces more than 50% of the total scallop
exports of Chile, and the University plays an important role in teaching
and research on this important resource. |
